Friday,
Michael Waltrip
sailed off into
turn 1 and wrecked
his NAPA Chevrolet
while trying to
secure a good
qualifying spot
for the Carolina
Dodge Dealers 400
race.
"I
got into turn 1 a
little bit
aggressively,"
Micahel said.
"I knew
that's what I had
to do to qualify.
The back of the
car came out, and
I got into the
wall."
Darlington's
already narrow
groove was made 30
inches narrower
when the new safer
walls were
recently
installed. Because
of the accident
Michael was forced
to use a
provisional for
the first time
this 2004 season.
And
then it was only
lap 9 when Michael
brought out the
first caution of
the day after
blowing a
right-side tire
while headed into
turn 3. The facial
expression peering
from the window of
his car in the
garage said more
than words.
It
has been a dismal
season so far for
this strikingly
handsome race
driver from
Sherrill Oaks,
North Carolina.
His Sunday finish
of 35th place now
puts Michael 37th
in the points
race. Never in
their wildest
imagination did
the team see
themselves here
after five weeks
of racing.
But,
no one in the #15
NAPA shop believes
it is quitting
time. They will
just work harder
this week. His
family, fans and
friends will be at
Bristol Motor
Speedway next
weekend eagerly
awaiting a glimpse
of their favorite
driver. DEI will
have him another
good car ready for
the famous ½ mile
track that is
often known for
beating and
banging up race
vehicles.
Race
day will be here
again and
Michael's bruised
and shaken body
will be ready to
go racing again.
With over thirty
races to go, he
knows some top
tens, a few top
fives and a win or
two will rush him
back up in the
points race. Loyal
fans will have
seen him through
these tough days.
The stress of the
struggle will fade
as weeks go by and
the bond of crew,
sponsor and driver
will be stronger
than ever.
Remember, Michael
is a two time
Daytona 500
winner! He will be
back with a new
intensity for all
to see.
Have
you been having a
struggle in your
life recently? The
stress of trying
to make sense out
of overwhelming
trials can make
time seem endless.
As you look back
to five weeks ago
or even just last
weekend did you
wonder where you
were headed? If
there was a point
system in life,
would you now be
near the end of
the field?
Well,
today clothe
yourself in the
armor of right
living and begin
your upward climb.
Take a
self-inventory of
your strengths and
begin to influence
others rather than
be influenced by
them. Be
accountable to
Christ for your
actions and He
will be faithful
to guide you to
rightful
decisions. Soon
your return to
Christ in
repentance and
forgiveness will
manifest itself in
a brand new
person.
That
NAPA #15 Chevrolet
will sparkle once
again when it
rolls into Bristol
this weekend.
Michael Waltrip
will have a smile
on his face and
encourage us with
one of his funny
stories. You, too,
can glow as the
love of Jesus
shines forth on
your countenance.
