Earnhardt's Tribute Lap

It was an emotional time during the pre-race ceremony at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Flashbulbs lit up the darkness of that first, fall night race.

Richard Childress, owner of the famous black #3 racecar, drove a tribute lap in honor of his equally famous driver Dale Earnhardt.

NASCAR fans shared the glory February 15, 1998 when 'the man in black', as Dale had affectionately become known, crossed the finish line and took the checkered flag to win his first and only Daytona 500. Those same fans shared the agony in February of 2001 when he slammed into the wall of the Daytona International Speedway.

Fans have, also, shared the courageous culture of the NASCAR circuit as they slowly bounced back from that dark eventful day. God heals all wounds and someday the pain of that Daytona 500 will subside. Much love and many prayers from those who loved the "Intimidator" have helped to make that time a closer reality.

When the camera panned up close to Richard Childress, you could see the sadness momentarily return as he recalled the horrific crash that took the life of his driver and friend.

"Richard Childress start car #3," came over the sound system. Fans roared their approval as Richard slowly circled the track where Dale Earnhardt had won five races prior to his death. The crowd seemed to sense the longing they perceived in Richard's face as he found himself completing the tribute lap.

Richard's words of comfort to the world through the television network that talked to him that afternoon were, "Just tell them to remember the good times. Don't be sad. Even the bad times were great times."

Perhaps you are presently experiencing a sad time. Maybe life has dealt you an affliction that you were not anticipating. Sickness, divorce, loss of a job, or the death of a loved one can render us seemingly helpless.

Use this time to pursue or renew your relationship with Jesus. He, who has promised never to leave or forsake you, will give His comfort and peace.

Jesus who tells us from Romans 8:28 that, "God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him.," can make our sad times become great times too.
