Girl's Day

"…You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus:
It is more blessed to give than to receive."

Acts 20:35 (NLT)

Granddaddy had gone to Rotary. Mom and sister, Faith, were at Cheerleading Camp. That left Mary Kathryn and me at home.

So, we had a ‘Girl’s Day’!

We began with an early lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. First, it was their specialty, Spinach Queso Dip and chips for me, and cheese sticks for Mary Kathryn. The salad bar and yummy chicken completed our cozy meal for two.

Mary Kathryn then found it difficult to select our next stopover. Glittering play necklaces and shiny bracelets from the mall are sometimes her choice. The bookstore and its massive array of reading material always beckons me. Our international savings mart, with the humongous toy aisle, won out that day. Visions of Barbie dolls and their accessories were floating around in Mary Kathryn’s mind as I made my way into a parking place.

A raspberry Icee from the summer sno-cone stand was to be our last tarriance. Both of us decided we were exhausted and we would make that another day.

With joy on our countenance, affection in our voices, and contentment in our hearts, we started home. It had been a day of loving, giving and sharing with one another.

I don’t know who enjoyed ‘Girl’s Day’ the most. Of course, Mary Kathryn was the one who came home with Barbies, a new back-pack to start school in a few weeks, and a special package of candy that only a grandma would purchase! "It is more blessed to give than to receive," is so true on days like that.

God loves to give unto us. Exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think is the way He describes it in His Holy Word.

He, also, loves that one-on-one time with us, much like Mary Kathryn and I shared that day. How peaceful and joyful I feel when I spend special time with Him. Reading, meditating on His Word and communicating with Him in prayer, help me more fully understand when Jesus says to me, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

A "Girl’s Day" with my granddaughter, and "Quiet Time" with my Heavenly Father enrich and fulfill my life immensely.
