My Mother Was Ready

"For God so loved the world that He gave
His only Son, so that everyone who believes
in Him will not perish but have eternal life."

John 3:16 (NLT)

Cancer is a frightful disease today. Twenty-five years ago the probability of survival was much less than now. My mother died from dreaded colon cancer. The suffering she endured those last few months of her life was very unpleasant. But, she was a trooper and never complained.

There was surgery and then more surgery. No chemotherapy was recommended even though the pain was intense. The cancer was already too far advanced.

Finally death came as I stood by her bedside and held her hand. Very briefly mother opened her eyes as if to say, "Thank you for being here with me as I leave this earthly body and go to live forever with my heavenly Father."

With that same glowing look she seemed to add, "I will be waiting for you in that glorious place with gates of pearl and streets of gold." Then ever so gently mother closed her eyes and we knew she was already meeting face-to-face with our wonderful Lord and Savior.

I was left with vivid remembrances of a kind, gentle, earthly mother who loved me very much.

If your tests came back with negative results, would you be prepared for the abrogating outcome?

Today, let's prioritize our lives before we are forced to hear such physically condemning words. Put your trust in Jesus, the Great Physician.

My mother did. She is worshipping in heaven at the feet of Jesus.

Are you ready? Complete you readiness now to meet our Lord.
