That's Scary

“Do not be afraid for I am with you."

Genesis 26:24 (NLT)

Our daughter and her family love to drive their jeep high in the rugged mountains of northwest Arkansas. After a long busy week of work and school, nothing relaxes them more than the magnificence of mountainous terrain and beautiful flowing streams.

Saturday morning five families in their jeeps converged upon a small charming mountain town for the weekend. They ate, they slept and enjoyed riding with God's beautiful world all around them. It seemed the day was so perfect.

And then suddenly an axle broke on one of the jeeps. And just as quickly the fun became work. A wench was used to pull the wounded vehicle the rest of the way up the mountain. While the families were working together to help their friend, we received a text from our daughter that read, "That's scary." Sitting on the side of the mountain watching the dangerous work of removing the broken jeep had created a little fear in her.

Soon a much more jubilant text came saying everyone was safely on top of the mountain!

Some days begin so lovely and you are all smiles when suddenly word is received of a tragedy in your family or with friends. A great anxiety arises in you.

Jesus tells us to not be afraid. Whatever the difficulty we must resist fear and put our trust in Him. When you feel like panicking, confess your need to God and then trust Him to care for you. His love will quiet your fears and give you confidence. You find yourself, just like our daughter in her jeep, on the mountaintop again.
